Look at the cover of the single, as depicted in this article:

This is however not consistent with the sleeve of the original LP album on which the song appeared, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which has it as "Bennie".
My guess is that if Elton John can't make his mind, we don't need to, either : )
