Are true country fans harder to please?!

Question: Is it easier for someone new to get into Rock/Rap than it is to get into Country. Do country fans expect a lot from someone coming into the buisness more than Rock fans do? (or any other genre for that matter)

I think our problem is best expressed in the words Bill Anderson wrote and Jean Shepard recorded:

"If you've never had a t-bone steak
Saltine crackers taste just fine."

We've had the t-bone steak with the great country music, so we don't want people trying to pass saltine crackers off as "great steak."

i don't think they expect more, it's just a cultural thing with country.

Yes,I would be definitely hard to please,as all the the so called new country all sounds the same to me.All new artits are labled as pop and if you are a pretty face, wear a hat and can mumble a few words, then you are definitly IN.

I can't answer for everyone, of course, I can only answer for me, and my answer is "no, it's not." I just listen to music...I know what I like, I know when I like it and I know why...when I hear something that strikes a chord in me, I either love it or hate it. That sounds pretty simple, I know, but for me, it really IS Just That Basic.

from listening to the countrypop stations it seems that anyone can sing a countrypop song and get airtime

Yes,I would be definitely hard to please, I miss the Old Country music that I fall in love with!

I expect a great deal from country singers and dont listen to the ones that do not produce . The crossovers appeal to many but I dont like most of that . One can tell if the singer loves their work or only in it for the money .

Think we are harder to please. Like the way isawmarty put it. We've had the real steak and now refuse to accept an immitation.
Instead of calling the new stuff today's country, there aught to be a new category of music all together. someone else mentioned a good name----countrypop. We all might be happier with that.
