Avenged Sevenfold religious?!

Question: Ive been a a7x listener for a while now, and ive noticed that allot of their songs have biblical refrences in them. So, are they religious? I know that they swear and stuff, but if they know so much about the bible, how could they not be?

Finally, another cool human being who loves A7X. A7X is my favorite band of all time. They swear but they are religious. Just listen Dear God and Afterlife. Avenged Sevenfold rocks!

the real question is, how do they manage to suck so much?

you could know about the bible, and still be a well-read athiest.

the bible is a very theological deal, man.
it is so historical, and full of many years of events. it is really a subject in itself.
they may not be religious, yet they are just theological.

The band's name is a reference to the Book of Genesis in the Bible where Cain is sentenced to live in exile for murdering his brother. God marked him so that none would kill him on account of his sin; the man who dared to kill Cain would have "vengeance taken upon him sevenfold." The title of Avenged Sevenfold's song "Chapter Four" references Genesis 4:15, the chapter of the Bible in which the story of Cain and Abel takes place. The song's subject also appears to be this story. "Beast and the Harlot", yet another song derived from the Bible, comes from the book of Revelation only it is written in the first person and refers to the punishment of Babylon the Great, world empire and seat of false religion. Another biblical reference occurs in the song "The Wicked End". In the song, several times it is said "dust the apple off, savor each bite, and deep inside you know Adam was right." making reference to Eve eating the forbidden fruit. Although the band's title and members' stage names make references to religion, Shadows stated in an interview that they are not a religious band. "Anyone that reads the lyrics and really knew anything about us, they would know we're not promoting either," he said. "That's one thing about this band that I love is that we never really shove any kind of, like, political or religious beliefs on people. We just, the music's there to entertain and maybe thought-provoking on both sides, but we don't try to, like, really shove anything down anyone's throat. There's too many bands that do that nowadays, I think."

Thats sort of like asking if you're a cartoon because you've read a lot of spiderman comics.

Reading a book doesn't make you a believer; Whether they are or not, kudos to them for learning.

Atheists also know a lot about the bible but they choose not to believe any of the stories. They might be using biblical references because it just goes with the whole theme of their music, kind of like Iron Maiden. Oh ya, and a7x is opening for Maiden on their tour this year.

Anyone that has chosen to be an atheist is bound to have done enough research to feel confident they are right.

Otherwise, they would asserting a belief on blind faith and we all know how stupid that would be, right?

I'm a fan and i don't think they are. I think they make songs about what will get people to listen, but if you want more info. then put "official avenged sevenfold website" into a Google search and ask them yourself =)
