It's hard to tell from your question, but I'm guessing your boyfriend is a fan of those bands (they are all from Minneapolis, by the way) and you want to get him something similar sounding?
See if you can find the album "Off The Hook" by the Magnolias (also from Minneapolis). It's an underappreciated album from an underappreciated band, and any fan of Soul Asylum, The Replacements, or Husker Du would love it.
Yeah, the mid-80's music scene in Minneapolis was pretty awesome (don't forget Prince started there as well). Thanks to it, they now have one of the most popular music schools in the country there.
