21st century music help?!

Question: I'm looking for good recommendations of modern (this decade) music. I'm a big fan of Wilco and Coldplay, but other than that I mostly like music from 1967-85. I also like the stones, floyd, the who, zeppelin, david bowie, and bruce springsteen. I like everything about radiohead except for thom yorke's voice. Can you offer me any reccomendations? Thank you.
PS Please no plain pop (eg. britney)

I'm not really into the newer stuff myself (mostly 70's/80's hard rock) but from what you've said I think you'd really like the bands "Jet" and "Silvertide".

Blackmore's Night

Technically they started in 1997, but the majority of their albums are post-2000.

Based on your likes, I'd suggest checking out Spoon's "Gimme Fiction" and "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga", "The Boxer" by The National, "Black Sheep Boy" by Okkervil River, "Everything All the Time" and "Cease to Begin" by Band of Horses, "Silent Alarm" by Bloc Party, "Apologies to the Queen Mary" by Wolf Parade (you may not like their voices), "Now Here is Nowhere" by the Secret Machines (very Pink Floyd-esque), "Funeral" and "Neon Bible" by the Arcade Fire (a current fan-favorite of Bowie and Byrne, but again you may have trouble with his voice), and "Bows and Arrows" by the Walkmen.

If you like any of those, feel free to email me and I'll give you some more suggestions. Many of these bands also have more recent albums, but these are good places to start from the last couple of years and can help you figure out the kind of new music you like.

Also, I can't recommend enough checking out pitchforkmedia.com for their best new music features - read their best new music reviews and see if anything sounds like something you'd like. Sounds like you'll be able to eliminate anything too rappy or art-rock, but a lot of the stuff they review is probably going to be right up your alley.

Happy listening!
