What do I have to do to be looked at as an equal in the music world?!

Question: You probably think that playing in a band is a guy thing to do, right? Well I'm a bassist. We cover a lot of the chili peppers, and once people hear me, they tell me i'm really good. I can't compare to Flea, but I think i'm pretty damn good. But when I'm talking to guys I just met, they give me weird looks and basically are like "Well I can't expect much, you're just a girl." I'm absolutely sick of it!! The only guys who support me are the ones in my band, and who I'm friends with.

And when I see music videos with wh*res in it, I get even more angry.

So I'd pretty much love to change how society looks at things.
What should I do to make it big with my band, and show that I can play?

I'm 14 by the way.

It takes a pretty big force to change societies direction. One person isn't enough.
One really good female bassist might be enough to jar the course of popular music opinion though.
Keep playing for the love of music and your instrument. If you play to prove something, it'll show, and won't have the power it could. Keep your eye on inspiring yourself, and you'll inspire others.
As your band changes, because it will, don't completely fill it with women, or it will look like a marketing ploy. A few really good female players, mixed with some really good male ones. In order to change industry biases, you're going to need to present the band on it's musical merit.

Write a letter to Tina Weymouth. She may be able to give you some pointers.

If you continue thru life with that much passion, I think you'll be just fine.

hey, your last two sentences ryhmed. forget that. well i kinda know how u feel, although i'm no musician. i'm learning to skateboard, but no one takes me seriously, cuz i'm a girl. what u might want to do is show them how good you are. if they say something like what u described, just be like really. r u afraid that i'm better than u, or how much u wanna bet that i can play really well. give them something to make them take a chance to see how good u really are, tempt them.

i don't know if u have any local bands, but if u do try to get in contact with them to see if they have any advice. you could also ask about putting a cd together. i don't know if u want to go that far, but i think that it would be really cool. you could also try to contact any other band from their websites. i can't guarentee anything though. good luck!!! don't let them get u down!!!

Tell people there High!!! Check out Tal Wilkenfeld she plays bass to she has play with many well known names Like Jeff Beck Eric Clapton,Thats just a couple. If you can play Then play dont let guys or girls degrade you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
