speaking to you as a X- sales person for sam ash music and brook mays music. we have heard that about a million times and we would bet on the kids comeing in the door that thry would play smoke on the water,drop D or want a distortion pedal that they have no iea how to use (: it was so funny and it helped pass the day. we even went so far as to make up a poster and hang it on the wall, NO DROP D NO SMOKE ON THE WATER !!! it was just a joke but it was soooo funny.!
dont try to impress you music store with your amazeing chops and how you have discovered the coolest new way to sound bad (: practice at home.the store isnt for doing demos, just for trying AND buying. these guys work on commision and if you just want to jam and bug them for chords and picks,your not helping them help you..
Dude everybody knows how to play smoke on the water so it's embarrasing. A lot of those people in there know how to play advanced stuff so you will humiliate yourself.
It's the most basic song there is, you're just showing your amateur status.
It's because it's a song that EVERYBODY knows, and since it's usually the one people learn first, playing it makes you look like a beginner and that you're not very good. And I'm sure that the staff has heard it a bazillion times by little kids just starting out. Just don't play it, it's like doing drugs.
