Punkish bands?!?!

Question: What bands do you know that can be considered true punk rock? I thought I knew but everyone says that's not right...I was thinking alog the lines of Yellowcard, old Cartel (as in The Ransom, etc.), the ataris, and other bands like that. why are these wrong?

um...Yellowcard, the Ataris, etc. are definitely not punk. I would consider them emo or possibly of the subgenre pop-punk, which is only vaguely and distantly related to punk. Punk is a genre born in the 70s with bands such as the Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Buzzcocks, the Stooges (Iggy Pop), the Ramones, the Damned, etc. Punk was/is all about rejecting disco and that sort of commercialized music in favor of rough rock with an "f--- you" attitude. Highly commercial, label-products like the bands you mentioned blatantly defy the punk mentality.

Eh, I can't even figure out what is "right" or "wrong" anymore.
I just listen to whatever satisfies me, and I don't really give
a s**t if it's out of style or not.

The Ramones
The Sex Pistols
Fugazi
The NY Dolls
Dead Kennedys
Anti-Flag

Thats true punk.

because they arent punk... i mean, they just arent. its popcore or pop punk

true punk is like black flag, the casualties, the exploited, bands that could kill yellowcard with a sideways glance

Your title is "Punkish" yet you want "true punk?"

this links will help:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pun...

there are different types of punk. If you would like fast and true punk, check out "the ramones" or "minor threat".

You were thinking more of alternative bands than punk bands

well i dont care what people say, the ataris old stuff was punk, but bands like: the clash, the descendents, the vandals, useless id, underminded, no use for a name, guttermouth, the distillers, etc. are considered punkrock, at least in my opinion

the bands you listed are mainstream punk, so they aren't considered to be true punk bands (pop/punk)

Those bands =/= punk.
At all.

Dead Kennedys
The Exploited
The Sex Pistols
The Ramones
The New York Dolls
Black Flag
The Dead Milkmen
The Clash
Iggy Pop/The Stooges
Dropkick Murphys
Dead Boys
Leftover Crack
Choking Victim
The Buzzcocks
Social Distortion
The Damned
Operation Ivy
The Queers
Rancid
etc.
=
punk.

google "80's punk" and thats the true punk
those bands defintely are not true punk they are pop punk
