Ok here goes...

Old school punk is the original stuff and rarely has any screaming in it.
Soo check out;

The Clash, the Damned, Crass, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, X Ray Spex, Slits, Ramones, the Rezillos, Blondie, Stiff Little Fingers

Newer stuff - Leftover Crack, Fugazi, Strike Anywhere, Lunachicks

New wave - the Cure, Pixies, Devo

Indie/Electro - Le Tigre, Belle and Sebastian, Peaches, Talking Heads, Smiths

Of course Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters

Classic rock - ACDC, Led Zeppelin

And can I recommend some good hip hop too - serious stuff, none of that commercial crap - Jehst, Immortal Technique, De La Soul, DJ Shadow, MF Doom, Madvillian

Also when you find something you like, go to www.last.fm and type in the artist and they will recommend and give you clips of related artists that you might like. Really useful for expanding your music collection with decent stuff.

Have fun :)

Oh you should definitely check out Siouxsie and the Banshees, they're old punk rock and they're really good.

Within Temptation are absolutely brilliant. They aren't screamo but they do use death grunts etc. in quite a few of their songs. I ADORE them check them out they are a really unique band.

Epica are similar to Within Temptation, but they're a bit softer if anything. They also use death grunts :)

Um, I wouldn't recommend Stiff Little Fingers even though I love them because they swear every other word... :)

You'd probably like Evanescence to get started with. They're alternative rock and I used to really like them until I got into the whole goth scene, found better bands like Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy and left them behind.

Lacuna Coil are also similar to Evanescence. Except they are Italian and a LOT better. They're gothic rock. Check out their newest album Karmacode. Check them all out and decide for yourself :)

Streetlight Manifesto.

the genre is called ska.. and I think you'll like it. Its like nothing you've ever heard.

air traffic, the libertines, arctic monkeys, babyshambles, the killers, the enemy, the dykeenies, editors, jet, dirty pretty things, the kooks, the maccabees, the clash, foo fighters, bombay bicycle club, the courteeners, jack penate, the holloways, led zeppelin,

i could go on forever

here's a tip though - when you find a band you like on iTunes, look at the bands under 'listeners also bought' and you will find more and more bands!

have fun!!
