April 1970 is the official breakup date, when Paul McCartney released his first solo album.

The story is that John wanted to leave, earlier, but Paul talked him out of it.

Then Paul recorded his first solo album - Late 1969 – March 1970 and released 17 April 1970.

This infuriate rd John who confronted Paul. Paul claimed he was leaving the Beatles for good -and officially, was the first to announce his leaving.

John & Yoko proceded to record their first collaborative effort (Plastic Ono Band) - 26 September - 9 October 1970 and released it 11 December 1970
