Madonna is a gimp. She isn't fit to go in the Rock N' roll hall of fame. She is a pop star. she sucks (in my opinion)
The Rock and Roll Hall of fame isn't just for performers of Rock music. It is for all genre's, including Pop music. Madonna has been in the music business for well over 20 years. She was inducted for being the "top female star of the 1980s with seven #1 hits, three #1 albums and seventeen top ten hits in that decade. In addition to molding her public image, Madonna is a meticulous studio craftsperson and completely uninhibited stage performer. From her first #1, 1984’s “Like A Virgin” (produced by Nile Rogers of Chic) to her most recent two year Confessions campaign, Madonna remains one of the most ferociously original artists in music today."
The Hall of Fame has a huge number of people that you wouldn't think of as rockers, the hall of fame is as big a joke as Modonna.
It's a bit of a stretch to have her in the Rock category, but she has been around a long time and paid her dues, so let her have her award, plush she appeared genuinely touched (probably because she was as surprised as we were!)
She's put out some good records, and rock and roll is basically what you make of it, so no use being snobs about musical styles.
However, I'll really respect her when she has Slayer or Pantera play on one of her records!!!
And so rock music is not "popular" as far as you're concerned ? Or should "rock" only ever include white bands with long hair and lots of amplifiers?
The R&R Hall of Fame includes ALL popular music styles ..rock, r & b, soul, reggae, and even common-or- garden "pop" as you describe it. And hey, even your precious metal !
And surely..the most significant, creative and succesful female artist of the last 20 years in popular music has at least SOME right to be inducted? If they can honour Leonard Cohen, they can cetainly honour Madonna!
