check out pandora.com. you can type in an artist name or song name and it will play music that has similar musical qualities to the song or artist- its free, there is nothing to download,it plays full songs, and its a great way to find new artist

Dave (or David) Dondero is the artist that Conner Oberst wishes he was. I'm not being mean by saying that either... Conner's openly admitted it to my friends personally and on stage the last time i saw Bright Eyes play. Try "The Transient," "Shooting Water Guns at the Sun," and "South of the South." My personal fave "The Pity Party" is alot harder to find.

Elliott Smith! =]

Try Cursive, they have the same singer as The Good life but you probably know that. Listen to some songs by the National, they have that folk sound, I think you'll really like.

Have a listen to the following:

(smog)/Bill Calahan: He used to record under the name (smog) but is now going under his real name. He plays some really laid back blues folk. Have a listen to the albums: Supper and A River's Not Too Much To Love.

My favourite songs of his are Morality and Our Anniversary.

Band of Horses: Some folkish alt-pop music here. They have a newish album out called Everything All The Time, and if you like Bright Eyes, you might like it. It's sort of a cross between Bright Eyes' albums Digital Ash in a Digital Urn and the one that came out just after that, which I cant remember the name of right now.

Blitzen Trapper: A very fun, wierd folk/county/pop band from the Pacific Northwest. Last year's album Wild Mountain Nation was a really fun mixture of blues, rock, country and pop music that always makes me smile.

-Sufjan Stevens
-Elliott Smith
and if you really like Bright Eyes, try Desaparecidos. If you haven't heard of them, they're Conor's other band, but far more rockier.
