Tubeway Army Replicas: Classic Album or Not?!
Question: I am old enough to remember when Gary Numan wasn't famous and rather avant guarde. Replicas was the album that shot him to fame, released 30 years ago. He had several number 1 singles in a row and then gradually faded from view. His reputation also dived and it became very uncool to like him.
Now he had rereleased Replicas and is doing a UK tour.
In retrospect, is this album a classic or a load of old tosh?

I too am of an age to remember , i recently heard him on the radio and it came flooding back have not had the album off since indeed it is a classic
I would say definitely a classic. Gary Numan is one of the greatest dark wave artists ever if not the greatest. However, I would beg to differ on a few items.
1. He only had one number 1 hit song with Cars in the U.S., two in the U.K. if you include Are 'Friends' Electric?
2. Even with the hit single, he was never really a household name here.
3. It never became uncool to like Gary Numan. And exactly what happened to his reputation? You're not confusing him with Gary Glitter are you?
