a strum is when you hit two or more strings at the same time(together) a pluck is when you hit one string. i have been playing guitar for the years and i practice almost an hour a day so feel free to ask questions

Yes, usually to strum you use a guitar pick and you will want to hold different frets (squares on the neck) down to achieve different pitches in the string which will ring in tune depending on which strings your holding.
Take the pick and strum (stroke) all the strings down and back up. This is the action that most guitar players you see doing with their right hand, or pick hand.
