Is it possible to have an objective view on RHH?!

Question: This is in response to a Question I saw earlier:

If you ask who's the better rapper Beanie Sigel or Lil Wayne 20 out of 22(guessing) will probably say Lil Wayne. IMO Album for Album//Punchline for Punchline//Story for Story Beans has Wayne beat by a long shot. again that's my opinion. I'm not basing this on who's my fav...I'm actually answering who I think is BETTER.

As in: You may LOVE Labron, but objectively Kobe's a better player.(Stats, wins, not my opinion, but things you can prove)

So do you think there can ever be a definitive way to rate MC's? Or do you think that it's all opinion and there is no way to be objective when it comes to rap?

Without having definitive "stats" I don't think you can ever come to an objective opinion.

Record sales would not be seen as a legit stat.

Good lyrics beats punchlines, are all subjective

No, I don't think it can ever really be objective - art doesn't work like that. Like Mr Biscuits said, the only concrete thing to go on is sales - which mean nothing.
But even the stuff we come up with to measure the best rappers by (batle skills/longevity/consistency etc etc) are argued over by everyone, so not only can we not be objective about the rappers, we can't be objective about how to rate them.

i agree with both above me. i think it's opinion really.
i also think that there are way too many questions on here asking who is better.

I dont think that there ever will be a defined way to rate an MC... But being an objective person is hard for some...I realize that everything I like isnt the best...But there are always people who are gonna think you are wrong because of an OPINION...

The only stat that really can be counted is album sales...and I guess now even ringtones...but that isnt a really fair rating system...

If you want to turn the music into a competition it can be objective. Itd be like the BCS (bowl championship series) in college football. Put a hundred critics and HH writers from across the globe in a room, with a list of the hundred most influential artists. Give 20 opinion based questions like swagger, lyrics,Album reviews, mixtapes etc to compare. Setup up a point system, put results in a computer. And find the most popular opinion. Although it will still be based on opinion. So theres your answer No. No objectivity.

IMO Freeway>Cassidy, but in a battle Free got murked.

NO. Picking an MC is not a science. Its all subjective, I mean some idiot may think that soulja boy is better than Jay Z (BLASPHEMY), but in their SMALL mind its justified. A lot of judgment made are strictly opinion, only seasoned fans of Hip Hop can be objective because then they're able to see the big picture. The big picture goes far beyond how the artist makes you feel, ( is the artist cute? can I dance to the songs? do they represent my set?) in order to be objective about a Hip Hop artist one has to question whether an artist adds VALUE to Hip Hop. Regardless of whether or not they're your favorite.

i think it's all in someone's opinion because the same person who listens to beanie sigel might not even like lil wayne or vice versa those are two totally different styles of rap in my opinion that's why one is shinig more than the other different era different fav

With RHH no, because certain mc's are better at cretain times in their carrers, in 1994 Nas might have been the best mc, but he's not the "Nasty Nas" he was in 94 in 2008, in 1995 DJ Premier might have been the best producer, but in the last year, March 21 2007-march 21 2008 (classic, doesn't count it came out in Jan 2007) he hasn't made any beats you can say that's a better beat than any other producer in the game has made from March 21 2007-march 21 2008
