In your opinion, who is the most talented band today?!

Question: my vote would go to dream theater:

maybe there's a better guitarist than petrucci.........maybe there's a better drummer than portnoy............maybe there's a better keyboard player than rudess.......but they're not all in the same band

and please don't say stupid stuff like MCR or avenged sevenfold, as i'm legitimately interested in finding out bands on the same level as dream theater

bahaha, that's the first thing that popped into my head....

You also can't forget that John Myung is an amazing bassist. I love the fact that they are extremely skilled at their respective instruments, but unlike most virtuoso bands, they don't lose any of that emotion that makes music so great (case and point, Hollow Years)

If I can throw in another band, I'll say Porcupine Tree. While Steven Wilson's not Petrucci speed, he has this very haunting aspect to him when he plays, he's such an emotional singer and song writer and Gavin Harrison has to be up there with Portnoy in the best modern drummers. And you can how perfect Richard Barbieri's abilities are in Lazarus:

Like DT, they have a lot of range.

im gonna have to go with a silver mt zion

everytime i listen to their stuff I cry.
but it might not be your cup of tea

Are you kidding?guess not.

ah good choice. besides queensryche, they have basically no competition in the progressive metal arena. my vote to the most talented band today would probably go to Iron Maiden. Bruce Dickinson is a powerful vocalist, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers gives Maiden an army of guitars, Steve Harris is a great bassist and Nicko McBrain is a great drummer as well.

as far as talent goes there are a few that i really like:
Muse (matt bellamy is a tripple threat with vocals, guitar, and piano skills)
The Rasmus
30 Seconds to Mars (shannon letto is one of the most unique drummmers i've heard)
Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea, enough said)

Well I don't even know who dream theater is but my favorite out there is "The devil wears prada"
feel free to disagree that's ^ just my opinion :]

I would say Pink Floyd. Or David Gilmour's work. The pure ecstasy of metaphysical realities really come alive in his stuff, just as Dream Theater. And Rush, Symphony X, even the Killers are rockin.

Lyrics are from divine enlightened emotion. He allows one to ride the echoes of the phoenix as the inner fire bursts into transformation.

If you like Dream Theater, try Dominici.

I'd have to say Smashing Pumpkins because I personally believe that with the amount of variation, hits, soul and profession in the hundreds of songs that Billy Corgan has written have caused them to become like... the new Beatles.

They do rock. The do alternative. They do Psychedelic. Grunge... etc... Jimmy Chamberlin has been named by many magazines the 'Top Drummer of all Time' and Billy Corgan has been called an ignorant, egotistic, self-indulged and... epically awesome musical genius too many times to recall...

-The lyrics are amazing. The guitar, piano, drumming, strumming, vocals... all stunning.

-They also do a great live show.

;) Hope that counts/helps you out.

Idk if i would say talented for this band but there still good to me and they dont sound like "everybody else" so my pick is Mayday Parade

i have to say evanescence, within temptation, and also the sweeney todd sound track is very good. don't forget blessthefall, nickelback, breaking benjumain-sorry about spelling- three day grace, all time low, tokio hotel, flyleaf, deathwish, immortal, scary kids scaring kids, senses fail, slipknot,as i lay dying, papa roach, linkin park, the killers, thousand foot krutch, system of down, switchfoot, marilyn manson, pink, red, the eyeliners, sixx:am, in theory, shadowfalls, and many more...that i can list....

when it comes to pure talent, they win, but angels and airwaves have this real "cinema" feel, which 30 seconds to mars does too, to their music which dream theater lacks, also, tool's adam jones and justin chancellor work together better than petrucci and myung ever had, and the synth guy in motion city soundtrack really knows what he's doin, and can produce(he released jimmy eat worlds first stuff), otherwise, you are pretty much correct with dream theater, unless you want me to say dragonforce

racer x was comparable to dream theater. i think paul gilbert is astonishing as a guitar player

Dragonforce is pretty talented as well

not sure you can accuratly get a comparision from a band like Dream Theater and a band someone else thinks is superior to anyone else.

I love good ol punk music, I think Less Than Jake is one of the most amazing bands around because of various reasons. They play well live, they still have fun, and have great lyrics and catchy songs.

I also love Alkaline Trio and Lawrence Arms. Both bands have strong meanings behind the songs, and aren't afraid to try new things on different albums.

underoath!

Tool. 'nuff said.

Nickelback

Even though you said don't say MCR I disagree with you cause bob their drummer almost died for their music and they've TONS of fans and there's obviously a reason for that.
