Do any other black people like artist like Aerosmith, Motley Crue and Guns N Ros!

Question: I've been a fan of Slash for many years and it's lead me on to be a fan of Gun N Roses and Velvet Revolver. Other bands that I like are Jane's Addiction, Arerosmith, RHCP and Motley Crue.

I grew up listening to lots or RnB and Blues. From Blues I became interested in Rock music.

When ever people discover my music tastes they always question why a black girl would be interested in that of music. Has anyone else been on the same receiving end?

I know i really shouldn't care what other people think of me but it seems like I'm the only black person I know that enjoys Rock music *lol*

Many thanks for your replies. :)

It is rare, but probably not as rare as you think.
I've met several black men who enjoy classic rock, and some who even like progressive and heavy metal.
Other blacks might be silent about their fondness of rock, to avoid ridicule from their peers.
It is arguable that some classic rock is actually more authentic... in representing it's african roots, than some of the modern hip-hop.
For instance, music of older Zeppelin or even the Black Crowes pays more homage to African American music history than say...Lil' John.
Thin Lizzy , Jimi Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Living Color, Lenny kravitz, Slash...did not let their heritage stop them from rocking.
Ray Charles even did some country songs.
Should Eminem and Kid Rock not rap? Maybe, lol. But that doesn't stop them.
Not to mention, 70% of the people who listen to rap are white, so why should it be so bad if a black person listens to rock? Welcome aboard, I say!
Benny Goodman was a pioneer in inter-racial music and band construction. His style of big-band identified a generation, and layed the foundation for more progressive music generations later.(Classic metal is almost identical to 1940's big-band, except it is played with guitars) Yet, when he first came out, he was ridiculed for playing "black" music.
I think it is great to listen to a variety of things. Don't let condescending comments bother you.

Music knows no colour.

But yes, I'm half black and my favourite band is GN'R. I did get quite a bit of hassle about it in secondary school, but to be honest it only showed the ignorance of the individuals giving me a hard time because I didn't and I refuse to conform to their stereotypes.

no, but i'm brown and i LOVE those bands. but skin colour doesn't dictate what music you should listen to. its dumb and stereotypical. jimmy hendrix was black wasn't he?

Yes,did you know that Slash is half black?

You're not the first person to ask that. So i would say no. :)

Its not a far leap from Blues to Rock. People for get that the founding fathers of Rock were the black blues legends of the Misissippi Delta.

i agree with the others and Jimi Hendrix was not only black but the best guitarist ever italacise bold print and hypothesize Ever

i enjoy all types of music too especially rock and metal. and when my friends would would hear the music they think I'm crazy or i worship Satan. yeah so i know where your coming from. my moms white and dads black so yeah i grew up listening to all music type.

I get a lot of what you are talking about.

I asked a question about this recently

There are pricks in the world who will try to get the best of you and use stereotypes to go against you.

Rock music is seen as music for white people.. which is complete bull. As black people were the fathers of it.. white people only funded it to make it more well known..
White majority steered to the heavy side (metal, punk)
Black majority steered to the more funky side (rnb, funk)

But those are just stereotypes.
And as as the great Sarah said to me: Stereotypes ARE made for breaking

i wish there were more like you. lol
but same thing. my favorite guitarist is Jimi Hendrix and i'm always asked "how come u ain't got Gucci Mane??" it's annoying cause i don't listen to that junk, but don't get me wrong, i like underground hip-hop like lupe fiasco and common and others.

but i like Guns N' Roses also. but The Jimi Hendrix Experience is my all time favorite.
also don't forget us blacks were the fathers of Rock, but whites also made it big (as said earlier). I'm 15 but i wanna be the next big black guitarist, there's hardly any of us around anymore. lol
