Does a hip hop artist's race affect his music?!

Question: Does a hip hop artist's race affect his music!?
i've noticed that most rappers that arent black tend to rap about non-gangster topics, mostly because if they made gangster rap people would make fun of them!. in turn, most of the caucasian people i know that dont normally listen to rap like artists such as Atmosphere, Sage Francis and occasionally Aesop Rock!. i have always chalked it up as a issue of being relatable (the sound of the artist voice, his point of view effects how much you like him, so if you are both of the same race, chances are you will have a little more in common)!. so my question is this: when people go to a record store, and look for an album that is NOT categorized in a genre they are comfortable with, will they pick the artist that looks most like them before the artist that does not!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Whether anyone wants to admit it on here or not Gangsta Rap is an African American based music!. The beats and the lyrics generally depict a way of life understood most by those who have lived it!. The beats can be traced back as far as ancestrial roots in Africa!. Even when Caucasians or Asians or whatever do rap, they almost always have an African American delivering them beats!. The gangsta style of rap is simply one that has developed by people rhyming about a harder way of life!. Do you really think 50 Cents would have been such an explosion in the music industry if it wasn't made VERY PUBLIC that he had been shot numerous times and survived!? It is all part of the gangsta life!. No, there are other races involved and making it a big part today, but for the most!.!.!.whether anyone one here wants to admit!.!.gansta rap is more of an African American genre with more popular artisits of their own color than any other race!. They are not the only race involved in the music, they just dominate the entire scene!. Check out the BET awards and I think you will see exactly what I mean!. I think they should be proud for the work they have done!! I myself love some gangsta rap at the right time, at the right place!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, yeah!. I mean, emcees rap about what they know (usually) and race is a part of ANYONE'S background!.

As far as the gangster stuff, the truth of the matter is that most rappers period don't talk about that kind of thing!. It's just that it's a violent fantasy that a lot of people have, meaning it sells more so that's what the record labels promote!. The majority of the hip hop I listen to is by Black emcees and most of them never talk about gangster topics!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

really for me i dont care if u got skills u got skills!. but for most people they see a white person or someone who isnt black and automatically assume that person cant rap or wont make it far!. Take the show Miss Rap Supreme for example!. if u have ever watched tht u know tht ppl out there wouldnt expect Byata or Bree to win!. in the back of their head they're goin
"Man If Only they were black!." but as far as there music except 4 pronunication of words perhaps, the race shouldnt exactly affect anything!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

-Well I guess it does affect the music

-Well i look for anything i could care less about race as long as it is good, I'm mexican and i wouldn't go looking for some mariachi musicWww@Enter-QA@Com

race isnt ever an issue with me!. i dont see colors!. i see whats inside!. and music is music to me weither they are white, black, latino whatever!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well look at Eminem, he's white, but he raps about everything, so it kinda does but then again it doesnt!.!.!.but we live in a messed up world, so who knows!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

yes because sadly race affects demogrpahics in our societyWww@Enter-QA@Com

I think black or brown people tend to get more publicy but it just depends what country their in!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

idk what it is but white ppl like eminem at least hes decent!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

As far as what the fans are buying, I don't know if it does!.
I mean, how many people, of any race can honestly relate to some of the twisted ish Eminem raps about!? But yet his records sell by the truckload!. And at the same time, how many black gangsta rap listeners are actually gangstas!? Not that many, I reckon!.

I suppose I look at it more on an international level!. Hip hop is predominately American, so to listeners from other parts of the world, many of the issues discussed are uniquely American, regardless of the skin colour of the rapper!. But yet we listen anyway!.

And each listener relates to what they hear in a different way!. It could be that you think that rapper is talking word for word about your life, it could be that you can take what they're saying and relate it to your life in another way, it could be that you don't relate, but agree with what they're saying!. Or it could just be that you like the sound of it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
