I would say Beethoven!. We hear the "Moonlight", the "Pathetique" and the "Appassionata" quite frequently (even though he wrote 32 sonatas that are equally as good or better than the above)!. Audiences don't warm up to Mozart the same way -- and I don't know why!.
And to correct one responder above, When Beethoven died he was not alone, nor was he poor!. Unlike Mozart, he was an astute business man and managed his affairs quite well!.

Incorrect!. They were both very successful and wrote books of sonatas!. Mozart was employed privately, and was a subject of the Emporer also, as a musical servant!. Me made fist fulls of dough and lost it too!. Beethoven was supported by 3 Russian noblemen who paid he way, right top the end!.

They are now surely both so popular!. The difference is Mozart had success with his music during his life and he has been recognized as genious!. Beethoven was considered as a servant and has died alone and poor!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
