Is it necessary to always play guitar in key?!

Question: Is it necessary to always play guitar in key!?
I'm relatively new to playing guitar and I have a question about an intro for a song I wrote that doesn't fit in any key (as far as I know)!.

I'm using the notes B, E, Gb, Bb, Ab, Db and Eb for the song, and I don't want to change anything because it sounds great!. The problem is, I'm wondering what scale I should work around to write the rest of the song, since my progression doesn't seem to fit in any key!. And, also, is it unusual for established guitar plays to have this happen when creating music!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, time to learn some music theory, it helps with questions like this!.

First off, you have at least one note that's not diatonic (in a normal major key or minor key)!. If you learn the circle of fifths you would know that the order of flats is B E A D G C F, while the order of sharps is its opposite - F C G D A E B!.

So, let's look at your notes from a different viewpoint!. Gb = F#, Bb = A#, etc, so if we reorder and relabel your notes we have B C# D# E F# G# A# B!. I put them in that order for a reason, because it shows the key that your notes are in!.!.!.!. B major!. Google guitar chords major scale if you don't know how to make chords from the notes above!.

There is a valid reason for labeling accidentals the way we do!.!.!. sometimes you use a flat, sometimes you use a sharp!. The general rule is you use the ones that require the fewest symbols, but you can only use each letter once, if you are playing within a classical diatonic scale!.

A classically trained player will know what he's doing, and will include out of key notes when the need arises!. A player that just plays because that's all he knows how to do will include out of key notes out of sheer ignorance, but will keep it if it sounds good!.

EDIT: It is customary among guitarists to list notes that you play as if you were playing standard notation, even if you're tuned down!. If I play the third fret of the sixth string, I'm calling it a 'G' if I'm speaking to another guitarist, even if I'm tuned down a step (which would make it 'F')!.

Hmm!.!.!.I'm trying to learn guitar myself!. I suggest that if you want whatever song ur playing to sound right, you should try to adjust it whichever way you can!.!.!.I can tell you this: if ur playing for an audience, DO adjust it to where it sounds right!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Whatever sounds good is fine!. I try to keep my guitars in tune because that's what I prefer, but famous guitarists like Josh Homme sometimes tune their guitar down two steps to get the sound they want!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

you should learn music theory it will help with your notation!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
