Well I started it with my friend and his two friends!. I was hoping that it would be focused a lot on metal!. They agreed, but so far, it hasn't been what I wanted!. Instead, we've just been doing covers of lousy punk songs that I don't even like!. I keep telling them that I really don't want to do any more covers, and Dave (my friend) keeps saying he agrees, and that we will just knock out a couple more!. I kept going with it, but now we've been together for almost 2 months and the only thing we've been doing is covering music that I'm not really into!. I don't hate it, but it's not what I was looking forward to playing in a band!. I don't know if I should quit or not because of a couple reasons!. One, I don't want to lose a friendship with Dave, and two, I don't know if I could ever find any ther band members!. I had already tried to for a while but nothing happened until Dave came to me!. What should I do!?! I need ideas! I keep saying that we should change our style a lil, but no one listens!Www@Enter-QA@Com

First of all, most garage bands put out covers for a little while, it's a good way to be able to sync well!. Tell Dave straight up that you want to write an original, and that you'd like his help!. Present it to the other band members!. If they complain, leave, because you don't want to be a cover band!.
also, my guitarist and I (we're a two-man band) started out with metal, and we're quickly spreading our influence!. Why stick to just one genre, when you can incorporate many into your playing style!? You can always post a kijiji or graigslist ad, saying you're looking for bandmates between such and such age, with such and such music interests, who want to do originals, not covers!.
If you live in the states, go to Kijiji!.com, if in Canada, Kijiji!.ca, etc!.
You can also try spreading out in other ways!. Become a one-man kind of thing!. What do you play!? If you play guitar, pick up bass, they're a very similar instrument!. Get software that makes drum beats, they're not too hard to find!.
Just tell Dave that you don't like the direction the band is headed in, because you're not interested in just doing cover after cover after cover!. If he agrees with you on turning out your own song, write it with him, and don't say anything about it to the other band members!. When it's done, give them the tabs/sheet music, and tell them you're going to learn to play this next!.
Get some recording software and a mic or something, and you're set!. Demo tape or CD, give a few out to some friends, if you attend school, hand them out there, maybe bring in a stereo and play it in a corner or something!.

Tell them that you are seriously thinking about leaving if you have to play covers again and again!. Tell them that if they want the band to go anywhere then your own music is gonna have to be started pretty soon!. If dave is a good friend you wont lose him just coz you left a band that you are not into!. If you do then why do you wanna be friends with an idiot !?
Next time you have band practice tell them that you dont want to do another cover!. If you have a song made already that you want to try let them know and ask them if they want to try it and see what they think!
