Why is DJ Muggs overlooked for his contributions?!
Question: Why is DJ Muggs overlooked for his contributions!?
Dr!. Dre is pretty much universally seen as the Godfather of the West Coast sound!. I don't disagree with that but at the very least, shouldn't DJ Muggs be recognized as being a significantly influential figure!? Other than Dre, no one has been more responsible for shaping the sound of the West than Muggs!. Muggs was even influential to Dre as he changed from his late-80s production style to what he has done since The Chronic!.
Yet I hardly ever see anyone name DJ Muggs as one of the best producers!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Muggs is a great producer, he's in my 11-15 range, I agree with what you said about him influencing Dr!. Dre, the production on cypress hill's first album clearly influenced The Chronic, and the whole west coast smoked out g-funk vibeWww@Enter-QA@Com
Good question!. I wonder if it's because the Soul Assassins crew weren't as contraversial as the guys from Death Row, so therefore the publicity wasn't the same!.
But I feel he gets overlooked by hip hop heads too, which is a shame!.
I've said it before about Dre, he's good at what he does, but he's not very innovative, whereas I think Muggs has shown high levels of creativity on some of his work (like with Tricky on Juxtapose for example)!.
But, I guess the names Dre is associated with are bigger than the names Muggs is most commonly associated with!. That's the only real reason I can think of!.
(and I don't think I've ever put him on a list of top 10 producers either, so I need to reconsider that)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
