Which one is the melody, and which one the harmony?!

Question: Which one is the melody, and which one the harmony!?
My wife and i are having a dissagreement on something!.

In the song "I'll be there for you" by The Rembrandts (the theme song of the Friends series), in the chorus there are two voice lines!. One goes descending down, and another one stays 'on top' of it!.

In my opinion the one that goes down is the melody, and the one that stays up is the harmony, but my wife thinks the opposite!.

Anyone knows the answer!? Which tune do you naturally sing along with the chorus!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
It doesn't necessarily matter which is higher; harmonies include the melody plus other notes either above or below it!. However, the tune you naturally sing along to is most certainly the melody!.
also, I just checked that particular song, and the descending part is indeed the melody!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I've been a recording engineer for 12 years!. Answer is Neither!. The section your referring to is the refrain!. The "I'll be there for you" and the "descending part" are both the melody!. Two or more singers sining those parts togather at diffrent pitches is the Harmoney!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

when i sing it i sing the descending one because the melody is usually the easiest one for people to follow!. im not positive though, i love "Friends" though!Www@Enter-QA@Com

they are both Harmony!.
a song doesn't have to have one melody and one harmony
