Should I dye my hair purple for the start of senior year?

I want to kick off my senior year with a bang. I want to dye my hair purple after I have my senior portraits in August. I have chin length dark brown, almost black hair. I think it would be pretty cool. My brother's fiance said I'd have to bleach my hair first, so what is the best bleach and dye to do the job? Not too expensive, under $20.

HmMm....I don't care about who likes me and who dosen't. I want to do this for me, not so people will like me. If they think I did to play cool, they are too shallow to be my friends anyway.

Amanda...seniors at my school get senior portraits at the local studio during the summer before senior year starts, so that's why I am waiting until late August. I won't ruin my pics!

Hmmm... I don't know how you would be able to pull off an impressive color like that at home :S Why don't you just shop around at salons untill you get the best price for it? A full regular dyejob where I go is 36 dollars. But, sometimes, the have deals, or give you coupons to use. But definately do it! That would be awesome!
