When you were a kid, did you get the belt, the wooden spoon or were you one of t!

Question:

When you were a kid, did you get the belt, the wooden spoon or were you one of those "Time Out" kids??

Do you believe in spanking as punishment??

Answers: We got whatever was handiest, which was usually a swat or kick in the a$s. None of us turned out to be criminals or disrespectful idiots or bums. We are all well-adjusted, gainfully employed, law-abiding, contributing members of society who are appreciative of our parents and what we have.

I don't necessarily believe in spanking, but I do believe that there must be consistent and enforceable consequences to bad behaviour for kids and that parents should be allowed to parent. Right now there are no effective consequences and this is destroying our society. i was never spanked or hit with anything,
nor was i ever put in time out. when my dad was a kid his mom hit him with the wooden spoon and one time she even threw a potato at him =O When my father got really mad, he'd throw things at me. All of it, the spoon, the belt, and the brotherly beatings when I stepped out of line, haha...whats a "Time Out"? Aint ever heard of one of them before...=]

If your friends with your kids, you failed as a parent Oh no, no time out for me. My mom busted me with the belt, fly swatter, hair brush....whatever was closest. Sometimes spanking is needed. I think most kids today should have been spanked more when they were little. belt,switches,yard-sticks and the spoon I got chased under the bed with a fly swatter...those things can sting you...

Do I believe in spanking....Yes, yes, yes. My brother and I got the wooden spoon from Mom and the belt from Dad. We were a couple of little hellions, though... yes, I do believe in spankings but I do not advocate beating your child. some children you can talk to, others learn from time out and others defiantly need a spanking. at school it was a steel tipped bamboo cane for the masters and the prefects could beat us with a wet running shoes, the limit was 6 well, i was spanked and sent to a time out. if i ever have kids, i don't believe i would spank them. to be honest, i haven't really thought about it. I got anything that was close to hand, but mostly the hand across the face. Mom would have drawn a six shooter faster than the best of the best.

Spanking can be effective, but only the hand to the clothed bottom and only sparingly. Sure is frowned on today, though. Too many spoiled kids. The belt and the wooden spoon... lol at least those were always the threats that were made. I do believe in spanking as a punishment. Is sad that it is frowned upon now because of a few dumb people. The wooden spoon! Ouch!

My sister-in-law calls them whackers Belt. My dad threw a shoe at me once. On accident though. He threw it at the door that I happened to be walking through. =) I got the wooden spoon... my husband got the belt when we were kids I didn't really get spankings but I think that we have regressed in the area of child discipline. I'm an advocate of bringing back the days when children respected their elders. So if that means the child has to go out and pick his own switch, so be it!! Nowadays, kids run the show because they know how to cry abuse even when it's not true. Time Out does not work for every child. My Mom was a yeller.. she would yell and yell so much that we would try to be good just so we wouldn't have to listen to her. As I child, when I saw mom take out the yardstick, I knew I was in trouble.I vowed that wouldn't happen if I had kids. Now, I have 3 of my own, 2 teen girls and a son in 1st grade, Every now and then the younger one will get a tap on the backside (after every thing else fails, counting, time out, etc) but overall, no "spanking"....Loss of privileges or grounding works the best around here.. This is really nasty now that I think about it, even it makes me mad... My mom used a fly swatter on me.. Yuck! She also had those hideous looking wooden sandals, she used one of them on my shoulder and it left a nasty bruise...

No I don't believe in spanking... There are much more better ways to discipline with love... I got the belt, the wooden spoon, the plastic brush and the backhand across the face for starters....and I believe that whatever punishment is used for a child it needs to be consistent and used every time, no backing down and open lines of communication... I got the belt. I have only spanked my kids a couple of times, and that really was no more than a swat. I go with time outs more, but really they listen pretty well. the belt was a pleasure compared to plastic hangers, switches from trees and my very last whipping was with a telephone wire. Time Out didn't exist when I was growing up. I appreciate what my mom has done because I grew up respectable. Besides now that I'm grown I have to be careful because I've reached the level where she would actually fight me if she has to and she would win, she's like the matrix. whatever works, as long as it's not abuse! hell, we got all of the above, still here, alive, and thriving!
today you put you'r hand up, and they scream abuse! and thats the whole problem with all the kids today! NO, DISCIPLINE sure am glad i'm to old to have them, not in this day, and age!. i actually feel sorry for the parents that have kids now!
