That dress is “country”.
He acts very “country”.
My aunt lives in the “country”.

I sometimes refer to my husband as “country” and he gets kind of irritated by it. He takes it as a negative thing, but I think it’s just a figure of speech.

Answers: welll for someone to "BE" country.. (which is offensive to country assed people...lol).. means they are southern and they feel like you think they are slow...

for someone to live in the country... means they live in a rural area... where going to the store for milk can take an hour because you have to drive "in to town" a hard woking blue collar person that lives in a small rural area... I'm very country, proud of it. It's a nicer version of hick, or redneck. I can see city people using it to describe things. There ain't nothing wrong with being country. Definitely rural in nature. And it is used as a negative, especially where people seem to prefer refined city living. Depending on your standing in life and culture the word "country" as used in your sentence could mean "bumpkin", backwards, or era-challenged. I can see it as an insult and would probably change the word you use to describe your husband.

Friend of mine found the word pacaderm and used it in describing his wife. He didn't know exactly what it meant. She thought it was cute and a special term of endearment. They looked it up one day and were horrified. I live in Appalachia (southern Ohio near West Virginia)
"country" has a meaning of backward, uneducated people.
It seems to me that the common name is trailer trash.
People who have lived all their lives in one area and was not "raized 'n duh citee" I was raised in southern Ohio but moved to the city. My country friends seldom trust me until they see my actions. Country people are rather friendly, down to earth. But, their is a sub-group that I (white man) do not hang with.
The Redneck Southerns. They scare me.
