What is the difference between sympathy and empathy?!

Question: sympathy is offering support to someone in a difficult time. Empathy is being able to identify with what another person is enduring, and being able to put yourself in their situation using your own experiences. I think :)

  • pretty much nothing, the same difference would be between indifference and apathy i suppose because when youre sympathetic you can also put yourself in a person's situation, so they are the same for the most part

'bout $5.00 depending on the prostitute

empathy is you actually putting yourself in that person frame of mind sympathy is just you feeling sorry for them

i think empathy is when u haven't been thru the situation and can only imagine what one is going thru and sympathy is when u've experienced it and understand what the person is going thru. there is a difference though, for sure.

they both mean to share and understand anothers feelings *
