Question: to buy you a new car for Christmas, would it matter to you that they were choosing a car of their choice because they drive them and they are safe and reliable? They are decent cars but you don't generally see young people driving them. They are Vovlos. Would that make you say no to the car? Would you be that set on a cheaper car that you would say no? Am I wrong for saying no to the cheaper car and saying if not the one I picked out than nothing. It is a gift from me. Not a gift from you. He always tries to tell me what to do. My oldest Son thinks it is terrific and is thrilled. My youngest thinks I am awful and trying to punish him by making him drive a 2008 Volvo? Am I wrong for following my instincts? It is my gift to him, not his gift to him. You cannot return and 40 to 50 thousand dollar car that is why I am asking if I am wrong or he is wrong.

Dude take the car!! but get it in stick :) , then being young in a volvo in won't matter, you'll be faster than god in a 08' volvo, they are great cars, and really safe. If some one has something to say stupid to say when they see you in it ... then they can f*ck themselves

EDIT - oh wait, YOU Are the parent? listen if your kids are like that, then you keep it . You kids are spoiled, this is your chance to pull them out of that. I've never driven a new car, the reason being my parents never bought me a DAMN thing....and here you are a decent mom trying to get your kid a brand new safe car and he complains? You keep it and give them your mom mobile, (if that's what you drive :) ), you aren't wrong in any way, I wish I had a mom like you 5 years ago :), tell him many kids would love a car like that and if he doesn't like it he can drive your old car are get a job....
I recommend NOT buying the cheaper car, don't get them into the habit of controling you
A gift is a gift and they should be grateful they are even receiving one their are some people that can't afford to give gifts.
I think that your son should be grateful that you buying him a car. My parents NEVER helped me out when it came to buying a car. KIDS are so spoiled these days. Look, if your son doesn't want a 2008 volvo, I would love one!!! :) I think that if you are going to buy the car, buy what you want..If he doesn't want it, dont buy him anything!
Rather have the money and buy a cheaper car and use the rest to get a better education
