That can be a real issue. Think about it - a bodybuilder, for example, is the male equivalent of a giggly blonde with huge boobs. An athlete immediately gets written off as some meathead who devotes all of his time to training for, and playing sports. And that's just not true.
Unfortunately, the stereotype sticks. I'm addicted to weightlifting, I swim, and practice martial arts and some gymnastics. All too often, I'm written off as some mentally challenged jock, which bothers me since I'm in pre-Med. I don't look retarded, by any stretch, but muscles and brains are, in the public's eye, mutually exclusive.
