Edinburgh is not a true to life experience of the real scotland glasgow is!

oh i thort glasgow wa sthe capital, sposed to be ruff in parts aye

edingburgh is cool as cool!

Neither, good old England any day.

sorry but Edinburgh

well not glasgow its a real sht hole

both have their good and bad points. i'm from edinburgh and worked in glasgow for about 5 months and i hated it. people mocked me for bein posh (which i'm not) and whenever i said i was from edinburgh people would start putting the place down. i also got more racial abuse in glasgow in those 5 months than i've ever had growing up including a 'joke' left for me at work which basically told me to go 'home' - not to edinburgh where i was born and brought up, but to china. a place to which i have never been.
having said that, glasgow is better for shopping.

Purplepants is right, I think Glasgow is a more prejudiced city - Edinburgh is a little more refined. I think you can get bad treatment in any city, it just depends which parts you visit. I am also of chinese descent (butr born in Scotland) and have received racial abuse in most cities i have been in, but Glasgow was the worse.

i went to Edinburgh in May and it was the biggest mistake of my life...i found the people very hostile and ignorant, plus the people i went to stay with never once even offered to contribute towards any drinks or taxi fare, i had to buy my own food because SHE didn't cook, or even offer me a cup of tea, it was a nightmare, i was meant to stay for 2 weeks and i lasted 4 days, i could not wait to get out of there, i was their guest and i spent £300.00 in 4 days on them and not once got a thank you from them, my son had to transfer money into my account so i could get home because they had cleaned me out, they never even offered to lend me the money and didn't even take me to the station when i was leaving, i had to make an excuse up so i could go home, so i would never set foot back there if it was rent free...Glasgow, nope wouldn't go there either....

Never been myself but my parents have and they loved it. They use to go every yr for the festival. They never mention any nastiness. I think it's awful the way you were treated, as were are all one, as a United Kingdom Nation.

you couldnt be further from the truth, Edinburgh and its people are some of the worlds best , so warm and welcoming, like they cant do enough to make one feel welcome

I would say Glasgow because not only am I born and bred but is the UK's 4th city behind London, Birmingham and Manchester. It is also the largest city in Scotland and named as 2nd for shopping in the UK after London.

The only reason why there are a lot of good comments about Edinburgh is because it is like London, Dublin and New York i.e. they are cosmopolitan cities and there are probably lower proportion of local accents compared to the actual population of the city. Therefore, more foreign accents and more tolerance of cultures etc.

I agree Edinburgh is more cultured and less racist attitudes than in Glasgow but don't be fooled there is as much racist attitudes among the locals in Edinburgh as opposed to the attitude Glasgow is more racist. Fact being we are not in the same league as Edinburgh when it comes to being a cosmopolitan city.

I know of a Sikh boy of 15 walking through a park in Edinburgh and had his hair hacked-off by the NEDs (Non Educated Delinquent). Another incident involved a Sikh man who had his turban removed as he walked into Edinburgh's city centre. Where there are NEDs there is racial intolerance and racist incidents. I have also been subject to racial abuse and its not pretty. I hear NEDs say they want P*** out of here! All Asians are this to them - it doesn't matter if they are not even Pakistani and I'm not even Pakistani either but they don't care and we happen to all be Muslims as well!! So its everywhere and not just in one locality. The English equivalent are called Chavs and they behave the same way. So ignorant

Glasgow was at some point in Scotland's history a capital city so it has nothing to do with a Castle in Edinburgh. It was once the Second City of the Empire!

Glasgow

are you jealous of scotlands capital city me thinks you are

As you know I went to Scotland many years ago! I can't recall which side it was now though lol But I will say this who-ever it was I found them to be rather rude, arrogrant and felt some-what threatened by them! I didn't feel comfortable and wanted to go back home! But I was aware they they didn't like us scousers very much! The family I went with were nice people and I could understand them, but they didn't live in Scotland anymore so they lost their accents quite a bit! I did notice my friend turn into a completley different person when she was there! But maybe that's a conforming thing? Cos back in England she was arrogant anyway it just showed more when she was in Scotland and we weren't the best of friends anyway!
