Why do people put up pictures of their children on facebook?!

I feel the same way. I would never post my daughter's pic online for everyone to see. There are some sick people out there that can take your pic and edit in Photoshop - add face to naked body....whatever; just a bad idea.
Now it's a different story if you have the photos password protected and only give your friends and family the password.

because my profile is private and i want to share my family with my freinds.

It is unsafe. I have pics of my son on myspace with me, but it's marked private so only my personal friends can see him. There's a lot of creepy people out there that will get to know you just to get to your children. It is very unsafe.

Any blog site where my children or grandchildren's pics are posted are private and only certain people have the ability to see them ... But, most parents and grandparents put pics of the kiddos b/c they want to show them off ...
Because they want to show them off to their friends and colleagues etc., which is perfectly normal. It's only unsafe if you don't set your privacy settings accordingly, so that only people on your friends list can view your photos or profile. Facebook actually has very good privacy settings to keep info safe, BUT people have to use them properly. Otherwise I agree, it is unsafe if they don't set them properly. They should not allow anyone and everyone to see their profiles or pics of their young children.
