Sammi, you have your facts straight. There's less tolerance and patience in today's society. People want everything instantly and do not want to wait on anything to develop.
All of these elements create an atmosphere where people begin to instantly and hastily judge others; particularly with malice and without provocations.
Our minds have been programmed to speed up and accelerate; and being smarter doesn't necessarily mean that we're more prudent. Intelligence does not equate to wisdom.
And rushing to judgment is extremely imprudent. Peace.

I think it just seems quicker than it used to be because of the almost instant news and communications we have available now.
People are too quick to judge. It's sad really. At the turn of the twentieth century a first impression took 90 seconds to form, not studies show that a first impression takes a mere 3 seconds. People want to think that they know everything even when they don't, and just judge based on what they alone percieve. It has to be one of the most annoying things ever. -shrug- but that's life.
I think people have always done this - we just have better communication now days. Gossip usually contains some judgement.
