If you knew your job was a dead-end job, and you were never going to be able to !

Question: I am in a department in an entry-level position. I make a pretty decent salary, however, we seem to be the grunts of the office. There is technically one more level that I can move up to on the pay scale. Right now I am an Associate Contract Specialist and if I get promoted I will be a Senior Contract Specialist. It's the same job functions though, just a little more pay.

Talk to you HR dept and find out what the requirements are for the non-grunt jobs. Check out the different job descriptions to see if that is something you would like to get into. From there if you are interested, take night classes or even get your degree to meet those requirments. You may find that being a grunt is more appealing to you. It is all about what would motivate you to make yourself rise up in the ranks or you may find your present duties, with decent salary, to be to your satisfaction.

If I was happy with the job I'd continue working there. If I wasn't happy I'd find something else.

if the pay is good....then stick with it and gain experience. stay there until you have been there at least 3 years. that way when you apply for a better job you will have had a good background. good luck!

i would just quit my job like i plan to do in a few months and go back to school b/c that'll pay off in the long run

I've been in the same dead-end job for 7 years. I swear after I buy a house I'm gonna look for a new job to go with it.

i'm in it and i'm getting bored

would you be happy doing that for the rest of your life?

If not then leave

look 4 a job that suits all ur needs whilst your still working at your current job...then leave when it suits you

I would definately quit and find something that I wanted to do. If you are in a dead-end, then you have to accept responsibility for seeing it that way.

If you are in a job without advancement potential, you don't have to view that as a "dead-end". There are always things you can do to improve what you do.

It depends on whether or not you are satisfied with the job and the pay. If you are OK with the job you do and you are paid a reasonable amount why would you want to be promoted into a position with more stress and responsibility?

Move somewhere else , do something else

embezzle..really

Call the closest college, ask to speak to financial aid and find out what to do to get a loan/grant to go back to college. In fact, that is what I did.... and studying knowing I'm going forward, is alot better than working and going nowhere....

PS. Four years is going to pass... whether you go to school or not.....

I have been in this situation. When I know that it is not the job I want or am happy in I continue to turn in resumes and find a better job. I don't quite my current job until I know that something better is going to happen. There is always something out there better, but you need to figure out what career you want and to pursue it. Do what it takes to get there. Right now I am tired of dead end jobs and starting school in December. So then I can wake up in the morning and know that I am happy about going to work and know that I am going to expect a good check. If you are miserable at your job and feel like the low one on the totem pole I suggest looking for a job that you would enjoy and have more confidence with. Good luck!
