Do you use the words "Sir" and "Ma'am" and do we teach o!

Question: I met someone who is constantly insisting that their child calls him "Sir" and his wife "Ma'am" when answering her parents. This same person then told me he would NEVER call anyone Sir or Ma'am. Noone, he says deserves that much respect. It made me aware that I need to make sure teach my children by example more than demands.

No we do not use sir or ma'am, but we use please & thank you! The kids in my sons play group always call me "Miss Dina." I think that's cute!!

My husband and I always use sir and ma'am. We grew up with parents who used them and we teach our children to use them. Weather everyone deserves the respect or not we owe it to our children to teach them to be respectful ergo respectable.

titles will fall, we have forms that people fill out where i work and most of them don't know what title means

they either get confused and ask what title means, or they write "mother" or something stupid like that

in Texas (or the south) they r very respectful...I think all children r made to say sir and ma'am....I think it depends a lot on where u were raised....I never had to say it as a child...I was raised in Michigan.

Honestly, I find it somewhat offensive when someone my age or older calls me ma'am. My children do say yes ma'am/sir to their father and me and other adults. But I would not speak to anyone younger than me and refer to them as ma'am or sir. I take the premise that one refers to their elders respectfully. Once again, I take offense to only those who are my age or older.

At my age, there are not that many people I meet that are old enough for me to show respect by calling them "Sir" or "Ma'am". And when younger people call me "Ma'am" it just makes me feel old, AND I'M NOT OLD!!! But I do like senior discounts.
