Clingy & high maintenance are 2 different things
You seem in between. You don't seem very in love when you talk, and just listen to find out things about them and answer. Staring blankly does nothing! A girl is very obsessive, she may have spies that ask you if you like them or to find out stuff about you. Believe me, a girl wouuld do anything to get with whoever's on her eye. She'll even do stuff she hates to catch your eye. I called the kid I liked every once in awhile to hint that I care about talking, but not too much to be considered annoying. And, I would try to hug him once a week(took a bit for him to hug back). If a guy likes this girl, hug back! She'll get upset if you don't seem like you like her. And when you talk to her, pay attention! Got it?
