How many Americans here can say they actually know what the United States Declar!
Question: I asked a very biased question under the politics section earlier today... It included exerts directly form the Declaration of Independence... the responses that I received really disturbed me!!! I have never claimed to be one of the smart guys, but after that... maybe I should!! To sum it up, the answers were so far to the right and so far to the left that it was really absurd!! I actually deleted the question... When did this country become so divided?? Aren't we all on the same side?? I have asked this in the Polls and Surveys section because it seems that the folks here tend to think for themselves.

I do!!! I am a history teacher. What do you mean by divided and being on the same side? The D of I is simply a letter from the colonists to the King explaining why it has become prudent for the colonies to break away from their beloved England. The D of I then goes on to list the grievances of the colonists. This letter was a death sentence had the war ended with the Brits being the victors.
I read the whole thing many years ago.

I'm not one of the ones that know...sorry deary.
We the people....and all that. It declares the US as it's own....to be ruled by England no more. I think it was written in 1776, but I may be wrong about that.
I'm going to feel like a huge jack*** if I'm wrong. In my defense I haven't had a history class in 12 years.
Better yet, how many Americans know the names of the political wanna-be's and incumbents who have trampled all over the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights so that we won't elect or re-elect them again ?
