Hippies started out being cool but inevitably ended up being fools. Hippy culture started out as a rebellion against the oppression from the government and the vietnam war. They were cool as they had a carefree and constantly happy attitude in a stressed out world, they were voices that called for peace and they created a cool fashion wave. However their continued ideals like open sex (which led many to contract unwanted pregnancies/abortions and STDs/Aids), end to working (which led many to live frugal lives with little or no money) and drugs (which caused many to die from overdoses and drug addiction). I feel the hippies are like communism, they sound good at the time and on paper but when things actually starts happening they no longer sound like a good idea.

both they were fools but people thought they were cool.

Cool.

Where have all the hippies gone?

i think they were fools !!

They were cool. My type of people. I should have been around back then.

cool IT WAS JUST MY FAVORITE SAYING; ONE LOVE

They also did a whole lot of complaining about wars and such but never did any real movements to protest. They always want to "fight the power and the man" but they never really got much accomplished after smoking all that pot and taking all them X hits.

cool yes, there was a lot of tension though, little things like viet nam, civil rights....
many were just along for the party, many wanted to make a change

cool, i hung out with them.

They were cool but naive.

The whole hippie ideal of peace, love, and inter-cosmic wisdom is wonderful. Unfortunately, the harsh realities of the real world make it impractical as a long term lifestyle.

My father is from that generation and he is cool, he doesn't trust the government. Something about Vietnam, the draft and the government constantly lying.

They were both. It's my understanding that early on there were protests and demonstrations, but as time went on, the drugs filtered in more and more, and people got too sedated to act and think freely on their own....

And then they got so drugged out they became a damned joke for generations to come. A joke, and a scapegoat "The Man" or the One Percenters used to label and marginalize the whole entire *half* of the United States that dared to disagree with their agenda.

Really. If it weren't for the potheads the hippies would have owned. As it was, they had to choose between becoming yuppie hypocrites, or becoming *victims of* the yuppie hypocrites.

Just my three cents, never mind me. -_-

cool man.

i think it was kinda weird...
