It's a pretty "big" promise...one that I have promised with the full intention of keeping...however...

And it's the "Kind" of promise that can and is "kept..."

Well, breaking a promise and lying are two separate things.
One is only lying if they had no intention of keeping the promise. There are many reasons to break a promise, how about women who are beaten by their husbands, should they keep their promise and continue loving their abuser because of a promise they once made?
Things change in relationships and sometimes it is best just to move on.
