Does this bother you about some Girls???!

Question: When they say things like, " OMG I love you!" Or write... " I ? ? ? you!"
Or just say I love you, when they don't really mean the true use of the word...
And for that matter does it just bother you when anyone says I love you, and is de-valueing the word.

I think saying that you love someone, should mean everything that it's supposed to, and not be changed into saying something like, you da man!

Thoughts?

I think you are right when you used the word "Girls" in the question. Now that I am near the "top of the hill" and not quite over it, looking back at past relationships of myself and others, those kind of phrases were used too frequently and without meaning. At this point in my life I am finally able to say and accept those words because I AM in love with THE most amazing WOMAN and she is in love with me. So when we express our love to each other we mean it. When I look at the ring on my finger it reminds me of our commitment that we made to each other. When we first started talking about love, we both agreed that we wouldn't just "say it" because there was nothing else to say or like an air kiss goodbye. When we say we love each other we mean it.
That all being said though, not everybody gets the chance to find or know true love so the word is just a word to them, who are we to say whether or not they should use it that way or no.

You dont know anything about love!
:)

depends on the context where i am being "loved"

I agree it is annoying. And i really hate it when people use LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE allthe time.

i agree. some people throw the word round too anyone who they just slightly like. it makes me feel kinda sick

yeah same goes with marriage

I agree.

I never say "I LOVE that show." ...Instead I say "I really LIKE that show."

You could also say I heart you for a change. :) Seriously, the English language stinks for that word. You use it for everything.

Those words are overrated, I think actions are stronger than words.

i hate it when people overuse the phrase. like they say "i love you" every single time they're together. i think it should be said occassionally. you shouldnt have to say it every single time you're together because you should already know the other person loves you without them even saying it.

Here, here!

I totally agree.

Oh my GOD...i could just choke em.....really if you don't like someone guys tell them to their face....but some girls....blah....disgusting....

This is quite a fascinating question/commentary. I think you are right, and wrong too. The American language doesn't differentiate between the types of "love" as does every other language. So it's a "one size fits all" situation, which makes it difficult to say I love you to our partners, family, friends and have it mean the proper kind of "love."

And we as a race tend to be effusive such as "I ??? you!" Most people would smile or laugh at that. So no, I don't think it de-values the word, as long as the person who is receiving it realizes that often times it's similar to an air kiss and not a life-long commitment.
