When english kids are playing, why do they put on an american accent?!

Question: have you noticed? did you as a kid?

Answers: have you noticed? did you as a kid?

That's ok, American kids try to talk British sometimes too.
In fact my daughter who is 29 and I do it sometimes.
We think Brits sound cool.

Dont know. you mean they talk normal and dont sound like they have something in there mouth, lol.

What are you talking about? Never did that,

yeah some do, its because of television mainly!

no, i already sounded fat enough

Because they're playing out things they see in movies and most movies are american. They are imitating actors and actresses that they see on their tv.

Or when they are singing.

lol ... well how many british cartoons do you know about? kid just hear american accents on cartoons and kids films all the time... its true though, ur right, they do use american accents!

Because American accents are very different to English ones.
I do it too (I'm English but I live in Australia).

Not all English kids talk about fast food

I grew up in America, and we put on Mexican accents, Irish accents, Italian accents... whatever struck our fancy. That's just the charm of broad imagination speaking.... it's the prime characteristic of youth.

ROFLMAO

They watch too many American action films.
Have you noticed that some Europeans talk in american accents when they speak english?..... Same reason I guess

I didn't know this. I did as a kid because I am american.

Playing with accents is fun! Heck, I am American and I used to put on southern accents, Brooklyn accents, and even English accents. It's fun to see if you can mimic another accent. Kids don't need a huge reason to do anything that they do. If they get a giggle out of it, that's enough.

Yes I have noticed that, especially little girls - I remember my daughter and her friend playing with their Barbies and that's exactly how they were speaking, bless!!!

haha. all of my classmates have contests to see who can talk in an english accent the longest without getting in trouble by a teacher. its pretty funny. i do wonder though if people make fun of our (american) accents as well... lol.

not a clue. i never did anything so stupid when i was a kid. rope swings, deathslides, drinking cider sure. but not pretending to be a Yank

influence of TV

Because they watch too much tv!
Obviously American, if they watched english shows I would imagine they would talk with English accents.

too much american tv.

When I was a teenager I tried to talk like they did on beverly hills 90210

I don,t know about english kids but in Wales our kids "bleat".BAA. lol xx

my cousins always doing that and he's always watching american tv....
.... starting to think it may be linked

i used to when i was little as well, mostly when i was playing lion king lol

lol ive wondered that, my daughter does it all the time, shes 7. but it could be the type of person/character shes trying to be as she watches a lot of bratz programmes they are her fave at the moment and they are american

they dont unless theyve heard it

Hahaha!

It's so true! I'm sure I did it as a child, and my children, nieces, friends children all do it too.

I really don't know why we/they do, but it's funny listening to them.

I asked my children why they do it (only the other day!), and they said they don't know.

I've never noticed that, sorry.......... this guy I used to work with tried to talk like an American, when I first started there I thought he was Canadian but it turned out he was from Manchester and blamed to much American TV as a child for his ridiculous accent, weird huh!
