If it is for something that wont last long, then I like sympathy.
But if I lost an arm and just about everyone started saying like "omg, I feel bad. Is their anything I can do for you?"
That would make me VERY angry.

depends on the situation. i get it and don;'t ask for it. this woman said i mustn't be feeling well because i looked pale, i said actually no, i feel fine

I don't want pity, nor do I need it. Pity is one of the most debilitating emotions someone can saddle you with.

When I'm sick..I don't mind some sympathy..
But when I discuss any problems I have with people..I don't want their sympathy..I want them to help me come up with a solution.

Yeah sure I like some, but when people ask you all day, how are you, are you OK? That gets annoying.
At times when I have felt really unhappy then some sympathy from a friend can be very supportive. It is always a bit worrying if you think the person is being 'sympathetic' because they are being nosey. In that case you have to look inside yourself unless you know for sure they are the 'office/town' gossip.
well when im in a really bad situation.... its kinda of warming and supportive that they give sympathy but then as like weeks go by and im fine and they keep going on with that sympathy it gets annoying ... i guess sympathy is only good at the right time..
Sympathy is ok as long as it doesn't come from somebody you hate
