Do you have a drug addict?!

Question: in your family?

Have you encouraged them to stop, what did they say?

Answers: in your family?

Have you encouraged them to stop, what did they say?

yes I do
I thought the death of his best friend would wake him up.
it was the same type of drug my family member uses that caused his friends death.

something changed in him when he was at the funeral as a pallbearer , but about 5 hours later. the addiction was screaming in his head again.....

I didn't even approach the issue, but my family member could almost sense it and had to explain why they went back to the drug, almost screaming at the top of his lungs.......

after that I realized I had no control over it......
the only thing I do and say is to constantly remind them that they need to control the drug don't let the drug control them or IT WILL KILL THEM......

it has seemed to do some good, but they still cannot kick the habit completely.

its called LIFE and it can be sad, but I learn to appreciate the time we DO have and tell everyone in my family that I love them until the day we die..

at least he's functional and I can connect to him just like any normal human being

I quit drinking 8 months ago. All on my own.... no help, no support. I think my family member might have helped some how some way.

I'd drink up to 1 liter of bourbon in a 24 hour period. for uhm about a year and a half ................ every day

Thank God - No

Yes,

coffee

I did, but fortunately not anymore

Im the drug addict in my family. and i would say f you, shut up, die, go kill yerself and eat s. stuff like that.

but then i went to rehab and figured out i was a dumbass and i have been clean for 3 years.
good luck.

i was the family drug addict, for years, i have been clean and sober for 5 years now.

i actually used to b myself! my family was the only reason i got clean! i was pretty messed up for about 4yrs! its bad when someone asks a personal question, we answer it honestly then some *** comes behind with thumbs down! i appreciate ur question and i answered it honestly!

My sister is recovering from meth. 2 and 1/2 yrs clean now. I also have a neice and nephew that are full blown meth addicts. They dont come around, they wont listen to anyone, weve all tried to help. Its something to where they either have to get busted or decide they want help. No one can do it for them, it has to be themselves that want help. They get mad when we say anything.*

I just recently ended a 3 year relationship with a boy who was a drug addict. Addiction is a terrible disease and it ruined his life. I tried and tried to get him to stop. I was there for him through 2 trips to rehab. I believed him every time he said he would change. Addicts are veteran manipulators and I stayed with him much longer than he deserved.

The hardest thing to realize is that I could not change him. His family could not change him. Rehab could not change him. He had to change himself.

Sadly it took him losing his friends, his job, going to jail, etc. And finally, he lost me. I've heard that he hit rock bottom but that he has been sober for the past month. I hope those rumors are true.

My heart goes out to you if you love someone who is an addict. It's dreadful.

No l don't.

I'm not, and I do know someone. I thought she was my friend, then all of the sudden she was talking about doing drugs with some guy, right there in front of me. She told me she didn't. The next day she talked about doing even more. I think she's been on every drug known to man. Point is, she hurt me.
