I wasn't born until 1979 and didn't watch Kotter til the 90s when it came on Nickelodeon or TV Land (i think). I loved it right off the bat!! I thought the skinny dorky guy was silly!!

Funniest ever? No way. M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, Cheers, those are shows of the caliber that I consider funniest ever.
In 1975 terms, Gabe Kaplan was funny. The rest of the cast were straining, and IMO failing to be funny. My favorite of that time, was Barney Miller.
