Where I grew up I had to take the bus to school. It was surrounded by railroad tracks. That best we could hope for was the bus to get stopped by a train. Especially hoped it was one of those that would stop and back up and be sitting there forever. lol Of course out of school we'd ride our bikes up to one of the railroad tracks and jump on them. Or we'd lay on the tracks acting like we were dead to see if we could get the engineer to stop. We never succeeded at that and luckily were smart enough not to press it. lol And of course we'd put out change on the tracks and let the trains smash them we all had pockets with flattened pennies and nickels. lol

yes I did it all the time when i was a kid my cousin and I also used to put pennies so the trains could run them over.

yes, until the cops found us.

No I have not! Way to dangerous!

We (my brother and friends) used to walk the railroad tracks from my hometown (Lafayette, LA) to Breaux Bridge a lot. The tracks were used by the "sugar train" that carried sugar cane to the sugar mill. It was a great hike!

But yes, railroad tracks are very dangerous and now they keep a closer eye on trespassers. We did our best to be safe however. We knew that it was dangerous but didn't feel in danger. We didn't do it to feel like we were getting away with breaking the rules either. We did it because is was such a nice hike and the shortest route for us to take to Breaux Bridge.

But the memories are grand! Long hot summer days strolling along, talking and laughing. We would discuss our big plans for life, next weekend or that night! Once we got to Breaux Bridge we would walk to a snowcone shop and grab a cool one. After a good rest, we'd walk back. I have no idea how long it took us to walk that walk. None of that mattered back then.

Kids don't have that freedome anymore. It's sad really. They are missing out on such wonderful memories.

I did it too.*
