For me, I would say Black Sabbath...KISS, AC/DC and the Beatles. It's so hard to pick just one band.

I like the Rolling Stones more than the others listed, but I wouldn't pick any of the above as the greatest Rock & Roll band ever. That's a matter of opinion. NEVER the Eagles. They're probably amongst my least favorites. The Clash stinks too.
As I said, it's a matter of opinion, and in my opinion, the greatest Rock & Roll band is the Talking Heads (though I realize I would be amongst the minority in saying so).

You know, if U2 and Bono dropped off the earth I wouldn't notice. The Stones were hot in the 60's but now they're IN their 60's come on guys, retire already. Van Halen, crap after they kicked out David Lee, even if all their stuff sounded the same. The Clash? They don't even belong in this question. The Eagles, too many tunes with a country or jazz style. AC/DC to me is the only "rock n roll band" listed.
