Is my dog is going out of his way to annoy me?!

Question: My dear uncle had to go to a nursing home and could no longer care for his dog Pippen. I thought the right thing to do would be to give Pippen a loving home instead of seeing the beautiful animal go to a shelter, or worse, the pound. In no time Pippen started going out of his way to bother me. He does things like lay his head on my lap when I'm watching TV or reading. He barks at strangers who come to the door. And the worst is he stands at the door for what seems like hours and whines. I try to ignore his abberant behavior, but when I do he'll make a mess on the floor. I would hate to get rid of this beautiful dog, but I am at my wit's end.

  • Maybe he is just adjusting to the situation and it will calm down.

I don't know about the dog, but your picture sure is annoying.

He needs attention and love...he's sad right now. Not that hard to figure out....

when he whines at the door let it outside!!!!! it "makes a mess" when you make him stop because it needs to go pee!!!!

Obviously you have no idea how to care for a dog. I think your best bet is to give him to someone who knows how to take care of a dog.

I found that when I copy my dog, just do everything he does, whine at the door, piss on the floor and eat from a bowl on the floor..he likes and respects me more. Try that.

He sounds like a lot of dogs. What he's doing is nothing out of the ordinary. Dogs like affection, they bark at strangers, and they like to go outside to potty and exercise. As far as peeing on the floor, he needs a trainer. Only after you do everything that you can as an owner to correct his behavior can you blame him for it.

Instead of ignoring it, you must discourage this behavior. There are experts who say that the answer is to retrain the Dog from Dominant position to You Having The Dominant position. This does not mean physical dicipline, rather, tone of voice and repeating commands til he gets it. Good Luck.

well bless you for a start for giving him a home instead of being destroyed. xx

Whats wrong with him laying his head on your lap ? hes happy in your company thats quite rare he loves you.
Nearly all dogs bark at strangers that come to the door-ours does and he can hardly walk cos of his arthritis.
He stands at the door whining to ask you to take him to the toilet stupid !! arrggggghh
How would YOU feel if you were not allowed to go to toilet when you wanted ???? Not suprised he goes on floor you perhaps shouldnt have a dog unless you understand their signals ???
Its not the dogs fault he is obviously more intelligent than you !!!!

Try going to obedience school. Not the dawg, you

do the dog a favor and give him to the pound he would be better off... and this is comming from an animal lover....
i cant believe how many people think that you are seriously this stupid....

Your dog is just trying to adjust to the new environment. Remember, he's looking for your uncle to come through the door. He can't understand why he's not.

You need to give him lots of love and reassurance that it's going to be O.K. He sounds like a very good dog who doesn't know what's happening. His life has been turned upside down just like your uncle's.

    JUST LOVE & REASSURE HIM!!!

Poor dog, he misses his owner. He is just looking for some love and attention. When he whines at the door take him outside and play with him a bit. He will soon become your best friend.

well if you dont want the dog to cry at the door for "hours" then let him out cause he got to pee or sh i t and when he lay his head on your leg he want some addtition and bark at stranger well maybe you thank him one day when someone trys to rob you dont take a brain scientists to think how your dog is

    lol,
dogs like to rest their heads on their "owner's" laps
they are supposed to bark when strangers are at the door.
and when he stands at the door for what seems like hours~please let the poor thing outside to pee or else you will continue to get a mess on the floor..lol
    you silly

Ugh god! How irritating is that! Kick the little f*cker in the head and tell him to go lay down! Its sounds like he is gaying up on you to. If you allow this behavior of him "laying his head on your lap" it may lead to more. (Leg humping, a*s licking, etc.) If you let it continue then well... We all will know your into it!
