Why do people buy burial plots when we will be dead and not able to enjoy them?!

The same reason Egyptian Pharaohs had pyramids built.
people buy them so they don't leave the family with that expense and they can be buried next to their spouse or other family members. They are expensive, but buying them in advance you get to make payments over time. So its less expensive than screwing your family.
To save their loved ones the strife and expense of having to select and pay for one.

Who knows. . .just cremate me and scatter the ashes. I don't want to take up more space when I die.
Burial Plots are a place for our loved ones to come and find comfort. It is also a way of immortalizing ourselves so that people will never forget us.
Go to a local cemetery and just look around at the number of burial plots which have benches next to them for people to sit on and also how many people are sitting by a grave site or standing there talking to their deceased loved one.

Look at it this way---if you were going to buy a house to live in and there was limited land you would pay more for the land than for the house. People buy burial plots to "reserve" a place for their burial. I myself am to be creamated and set in an urn where I do not have to worry about my family not visiting the grave site but once a year (later on in their lives).
Even if they were to "dump" me on some hallowed ground, the urn would be used for flowers or storage, etc. and I would still be there .
