Something about my band..help please?!

Question: My band, 7 Inches Of Love, need help...we're thinking of going from reggae to metal (you're probably thinking, how the hell do you go from reggae to metal???) but our singer has a deep voice that can go to a beautiful voice, our bassist is amazing, our lead guitarist can solo like no other, our other guitarist can keep a great beat, and i am a good drummer...we havent voted yet but we would like to have others opinions, what do you think?

You make me laugh. I just got involved with a band that does METAL ONLY. They told me that if I'm not metal, get the hell out. The guitarist is one of the best amateur blues guitarist I know, and I know that he can play old surf rock like Dick Dale and old Marley Reggae. But he consented to the singer's ideology of METAL ONLY.

My tip for you: **** your audience. Play what you want. Metallica played for their money and for their manager. They lost their core friends, gained a load of poseur friends. Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and Kirk Hammet weren't having fun anymore and fought endlessly between shows and between albums. And you start looking back to the days of Kill 'Em All, ...And Justice For All, and compare it to their self-titled and stuff. It's ugly.

But consider this. I wanted a reggae-metal style before my guitarist sold out. Then I got to thinking....
SUBLIME.
Reggae,
Metal,
Punk,
= SKA

Play what you want, man. But be sure that it is from the voice and ESPECIALLY THE HEART of EVERYONE in the band. Make sure that your music is done for pleasure, not what someone else wants.

And good luck to you. Don't end with the same story I did.

why not

anything sounds better than reggae except for SOFT rock

Think you need a couple more inches. ;)

Sure why not go for it!! You never know unless you don't try.

don't care for either music style

Hey it can't hurt to at least try it, right? And if you sound terrible than you can always go back to reggae. So I think you should try it. What have you got to loose?

do metal. guitars solos will go great

I think that is a great idea! Good luck! I'm loving your band name too!

Great name, I'm sure Walmart will welcome your major debut self-titled CD with open arms.

Metal is certaintly more mainstream than reggae, or at least to young audiences. The issue would be that metal is far more complex in terms of guitar. Although if you have two guitarists who you think are both good, you should give it a try

TRY IT! If it sucks go back to reggae or try something else.

Your vocal will be the determining issue, if he can go with the change, your musicians can play just about any type of rhythm or beat...go with the need, if you feel good about it, GO FOR IT!!! ROCK OUT!!!

My suggestion would be play what you love. That's what all the greats do. If it's one or the other or a mix or a variation, you'll be expanding your talent if you play more than one genre. Good luck.

Its seems awesome, and i am not wondering how u can do what u said, its cool with me whatever u do.

well...
there arnt alot of reggae bands out there so u guys may bring the genre back and everyone will like... or u can try metal and everyone either
A-will think u are like any other metal band.
or
B-u will be good and break out and be a popular band

sounds good to me.
good luck.
remember me when your famous k???
= )

Your Band name is definetly way Metal.
I would love to hear what your Metal sound could produce also maybe a Metal band with a little Reggae Flavor.
Doing something that nobody else heard before it was what Music and Art are all about.
So listen to your own voice and you will know what to do.
Good Luck.
