Have you ever offended anyone without meaning to on answers?!
Question: I did recently without meaning to. I was shedding some harmless humor on the subject, and in return got some hate mail. It surprisingly got to me a little, and it would make me feel better to know that simular circumstances have occured to others. Apparently I let things get to me too easily.

I noticed that there are bound to be ways that I could offend anyone just by giving an honest opinion... The best thing to do is to let it go and move on...
Sometimes, the bad thing about typing is that people can't tell whether we mean something or not since they don't see us face to face...
I'm just a normal human being, I can't please everyone all the time... The same goes for you dear, so cheer up... ^_^

Yes to your question though. Sometimes people don't see the humor they see rudeness instead. All you can do is apologize and show you were merely just trying to get a laugh.

Yup, it's happened to me to and it's horrible!! I felt quite hurt which is ridiculous since we dont know anyone apart from their avatars and nicknames. You are obviously sensitive like me which is a good thing - so dont feel bad, they're the loser not you.
Yeah ..... made a throw away comment once, and got bombarded by anti-British (??) abuse over a few emails.
I suppose its better than not being noticed!

If I have no-one has told me so I'll apologize now just in case,if I want to offend,which is very rare, I do it on purpose not by accident.

Yes, all the time. Sometimes my sarcastic wit is taken too literally, when anyone with a sense of humor would realise I was only kidding.
it depends what u said but if it was just harmless banter i would'nt worry about it ppl ask questions to get honest opinions and then its there decision how to take it but unless u were bin a total insensitive pratt dont worry bout it :)

i've had people threaten me in a hundred ways, I just laugh and tell them where to go and the tell them to have sex with themselves

yep, i sure have. however, if someone asks an OPINION question, and i give my OPINION, and it insults them, TOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry, but there is enough pain and suffering in the world without everyone looking for a pity party.
I think the trouble with a 'written' reply/question is that people cannot tell what TONE was used...whether it was said with humor...or sarcasm...or in a caring manner....
It stands to reason that some people will simply "read it the wrong way" other than how you meant it.
Some people can be quite nasty in their replies are too quick to have a go at someone if they don't agree 100% with what they had to say.
AND SOME PEOPLE SIMPLY HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOR.

Yes,when I got the hate- email I blocked the user, only to find it was not the person they appeared to be. It was a poser, so I did not feel bad after all.

Answer a question and some people will have a go, see someone with completely the opposite answer and others will have a go at them.
There's a growing part of society that's incredibly hypocritical, they get so called 'offended' at least 20 times a day and when you look at their previous questions and answers the whole 'i'm perfect' frount disintigrates.
It seems to be the 'in thing' that we are all now so sensitive, so easily hurt, etc that i'm surprised some of these people have actually managed to lived so long.
You just have to let it go because when it's a case of no matter what you say will offend someone, that how can you ever win?
Don't let them get to you and in no way must you change your comments on any subject, your point of view and your opinion is just valid as theirs.
Don't sweat it my friend..my guy was a hateful fruit-cake..or as we like to say in OZ...a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock..or a few sandwiches short of a picnic..a tinnie short of a 6-pack..You can generally tell the cowards..they send their hate and insecurity via e-mail..and then disable theirs..so you can't respond..I shrug it off..doesn't happen much..(don't think about it!)..I just say.."Sir,I am discombobulated by your fundamental ignorance of manners pertaining to the nicities of politeness and common forbearance..".. or other language that they will immediately understand...Don't Sweat It!

I'll go a step further. Just last night I posted a music trivia question and when the answers came in I realized I phrased it poorly and made it too difficult. It literally bothered me all night.
I didn't delete the question because one person answered correctly and I wanted to award B/A.
That doesn't seem to hard to do here in Y/A of quickly offending someone. There are categories I just don't answer questions in anymore. Even when answering a question seriously in some of those groups you still going to offend someone. Some people here in Y/A also need to get a sense of humor.
Ah, Kit, you sensitive devil. Hell, I'm still grimacing about things that happened to me in grade school almost fifty years ago! In a forum like this, you simply cannot post something that will not offend somebody. Everyone has their passions and obsessions and sometimes fail to realize that a person's intent isn't to rain on their parade, but just to offer a bit of honesty. The very first question I ever asked on Y!A was like that; my first answerer not only trashed my question, but attacked my avatar (a picture of me) to boot. Needless to sneedless, I changed my avatar and went on. I AM proud that I simply answered that individual without malice in an edit that perhaps they had missed the point of my query. You know that there are jerks in the world. Think of the number of people that are involved in this website. Logic dictates that a certain percentage of those numbers are going to be jerks. We all have to live with that fact, even if it hurts a bit when they single us out. You're not alone, bro.
