Question: So Im watching C-Span, and Teri Schiavos brother is making a speech. This raises an interesting point.
Should feeding tubes be removed, if the person is still somewhat coherent? The brother claims she was responsive at times.

These people need to just move on! The woman is dead. The autopsy showed that the brain had no function! Responsive at times? What exactly does that mean? Can I truly love my spouse if I am only "responsive at times?" Can I take care of my kids if I am only "responsive at times?" Can I truly have or enjoy a life if i am only "responsive at times?" Get a grip and move on! Taking a persons right to do what they feel is right with their OWN body is the biggest problem. And our government trying to step between a husband and wife regarding an issue so deeply personal is the biggest right being violated.
I think personally that if a person can't breath on his or her own or eat on there own that if they need it then give it to them but don't give it to them and then take it away they will go where they are ready and if your going to take it away why ever even have given the option to ever have it.

She was not responsive. The doctors said she was brain dead. Her eyes moved only to follow the light and shapes as they moved around her.
There was no right to live issue here. She was dead, her body was an empty shell according to MULTIPLE respected DOCTORS.
Feeding tubes should be removed only if there is absolutely no hope for recovery. Her brother and parents based their statements on pure hope and prayers. God had other plans for Terr Schiavo and called her back to heaven, leaving her body behind.
She wasn't coherent, she wasn't responsive, she had been in that state for quite a while if I remember right. Now right or wrong, our government has long recognised the relationship between a husband and wife as trumping all other relationships, brother/sister, parent/child, etc. So it was the Husbands decision to make, not her brother's. Somehow it just got completely politicised and became a pro-life thing. It was not, it was a Husband/Wife thing, and her meddlesome family needed to respect their relationship, which of course they didn't.
i'm glad someone else watches c-span. its NOT boring! in response to your ???, we have no more rights. taking away the right to live, via 'pulling the plug' or abortion is the ultimate. what could possibly be greater?
aside from the right to create a new Y!A profile, which they have taken away from dr mccain and jay.
All I know is if I was ever in her position I would want to be taken off life support.
Terri Schiavo was brain dead and the autopsy bore that out. "Sometimes coherent" was just wishful thinking. Her mind was gone, and all her brother and parents acheived was to trap her soul in a body that was no longer of use to her and delay her reunion with God. One thing you can always trust Roman Catholics for is that if there's a way to make people suffer more and longer, they think it's what God wants.
If you want to worry about taking away the Right to Live, worry about Big Business and Big Religion. Big Business wants to charge you more and more for less and less Health Care and squeeze the poor out altogether. Big Religion wants to ban abortions to save the Mother's Life. "Too Bad. She had sex, but maybe we can save the Baby."
Both are ok with executing people for murders they didn't commit and are constantly introducing bills into State Legislatures to limit appeals so that folks are dead BEFORE their innocence is established and to limit liability for wrongful execution.
And, of course, if you are a Muslim in the Mid-East, you have no right to live. Even if it's against US interests to kill you.
